Objectives On completion of this subject students should have developed a good understanding of contemporary Chinese society; the ability to comprehend and express complex ideas in both spoken and written forms and strategies of cross-cultural conceptualisation, incorporating translation skills, crucial to critical thinking on a range of contemporary issues concerning China.
Synopsis Reading of original modern texts, introduction to classical Chinese, and advanced spoken Chinese.
Assessment Written assignments (1000 words): 20%
