Objectives As for CHC2230 with the additional objective that the course aims to achieve a greater degree of methodological sophistication in the analysis of these issues than is achieved at second year.

Synopsis As for CHC2230.

Assessment Seminar paper (1500 words): 20%
* Essay (2000 words): 30%
* Examination (2.5 hours): 50%
* Students will be expected to show a higher level of sophistication in their approach to the works studied, as well as greater understanding of the ancient cultural context of these works, and a wider reading in modern criticism.
