Objectives The subject is designed to develop in students an awareness of the evolution of Judaism at a critical phase in its history. Students completing this subject should become aware of the interrelationship of peoples and their belief systems and how these associations can lead to the evolution of new ideas as well as to conflict.

Synopsis This subject centres on the interaction of Judaism with Hellenism and Roman culture around the turn of the era. It focuses on the connections of the three centres from the conquest of Alexander, through the rise of Christianity, to the rule of the Emperor Trajan.

Assessment Tutorial paper (1000 words): 20%
