Intermediate business Chinese, part 1

Objectives Further development of oral/aural for use in everyday, practical situations; develop skills to read simplified materials; develop the ability to write general letters requesting information; an introduction to some basic vocabulary useful in business situations; development of a basic understanding of current affairs in China.

Synopsis Intermediate level spoken and written Chinese; intermediate level readings; readings (in English) on Chinese current affairs. Regular classroom activities will be suplemented through use of audio/visual materials to strengthen listening and reading skills.

Assessment Weekly homework exercises: 20%
* Speaking/oral presentation in class: 10%
* Performance in tutorials: 5%
* Oral test: 15%
* Written tests - final exam: 40%
* Regular short dictation: 10%
