Recognition of characters in `Practical Chinese reader I' assumed. Students who
have passed the first language stream of VCE Chinese are not permitted to enrol
in this subject and will be required to sit for a placement test to determine
their Chinese language proficiency.
Objectives Further development of oral and aural for use in everyday, practical situations; develop skills to read simplified materials; develop the ability to write general letters requesting information; an introduction to some basic vocabulary useful in business situations; development of a basic understanding of current affairs in China.
Synopsis Intermediate level spoken and written Chinese; intermediate level readings; readings (in English) on Chinese current affairs. Regular classroom activities will be suplemented through use of audio/visual materials to strengthen listening and reading skills.
Assessment Weekly homework exercises: 20%
