Studio painting I

Objectives At the completion of the subject students are expected to have explored and experienced various aspects of visual language through painting; developed some painting skills and techniques; gained some understanding of the application of colour theory; begun to use painting as a means of personal expression.

Synopsis This subject includes short introductory lectures and practical exercises in painting under the supervision of expert studio staff. Regular individual tutorials are conducted in the studio. The subject is designed to provide Faculty of Arts students with basic experience of techniques of painting as they have been developed by artists in their efforts to describe and analyse forms and ideas - both in the past and now.

Assessment Presentation of a portfolio of coursework.
