Objectives The specific learning objectives for this subject are for students to reflect upon the complex relationships between the child, the family, the community, and the State; develop an understanding of the complexities of child protection practice; develop an understanding of the links between policy and practice in this field.

Synopsis This subject considers a range of issues relating to social work practice in response to child abuse. In particular, the subject seeks to examine the relationship between the child, the family, the community and the state.

Assessment Assignment (7000 words): 80%
* Seminar paper (2000 words) including 1-hour class presentation and 1-hour discussion: 20%
