Publishing forms and processes

Objectives Upon completion of this subject students should have a working knowledge of the forms and processes involved in the production of books and magazines; developed skills for the production management of a particular publishing project; an understanding of the techniques in marketing and distribution of publications.

Synopsis This subject is designed to provide students with an overview of the role of the various production processes and their management in publishing. Students will be taken through the various stages of the physical production of various formats (books, magazines and newspapers) and their subsequent marketing and distribution.

Assessment Practical exercises: 20%
* Field exercise: 20%
* Review paper (3000 words): 40%
* Examination (one hour): 20%
