Objectives By the end of the semester, students taking this unit should have a basic knowledge of the history, styles and contexts of the selected genres and a framework in which to identify, categorise, and assess and write about selected styles of music and popular culture in Asia and Australia.
Synopsis Study of the relationships between popular music and society, culture and economic forces and of popular musical genres in Australia and Asia, with special reference to India, Indonesia, Vietnam, China and Japan.
Assessment Written (6000 words): 60%

(2 hours): 20%
* Listening tests: 20%
