* Prerequisites: BA in Japanese with Monash post-Level D Japanese or equivalent

Objectives Students successfully completing this subject should have increased their ability to extract the main points as well as to understand the details of an article; extended their knowledge of sentence patterns, expressions, vocabulary and kanji especially in students' areas of speciality; and increasing their knowledge of Japanese current affairs and social/cultural perspective.

Synopsis This subject is designed to further extend the ability of students to comprehend written Japanese presented in a journalistic style. The subject involves extensive reading of newspapers and journal articles covering a wide range of topics in class. It also involves individual reading by each student to extend the vocabulary range in his/her specialised area. Students are expected to search for and to choose articles for their individual reading through the internet or by a hardcopy.

Assessment Quizzes and assignments: 15%
* Presentation: 50%
* Examination (2 hours): 35%
