* Prerequisites: Undergraduate major in Japanese or equivalent

Objectives Upon successfully completing this subject, students should feel at ease in approaching a variety of Japanese texts, be able to read such texts with pleasure and fluency, have gained the ability to use Japanese dictionaries for reading, and be familiar with grammar patterns used in written Japanese.

Synopsis This subject acquaints students with various features of the Japanese language through the reading of Japanese texts. Readings cover a wide range of topics in many different subjects including Japanese literature, economics and society.

Assessment (4 points) Weekly assignment: 25%
* Presentation: 15%
* Test (2 hours): 60%
Assessment (6 points) Weekly assignment: 30%
* Presentation: 20%
* Test (2 hours): 50%
