Projects in Japanese interpreting and translation

Objectives By completing this subject, students in the interpreting stream will have had an opportunity to develop the knowledge of the interpreting/translating profession and professional issues in Australia, Japan and other countries. Students in the translation stream should have developed skills in translating large chapter-length texts from Japanese to English or from English to Japanese.

Synopsis Students doing this subject will have a choice to select one of two streams: one centred on translation and the other on interpreting. Students will be expected to be able to work independently, and each student will be assigned a supervisor. Each student's work will revolve around a major project (in translation) or a series of small projects (in interpreting or in translation). Several joint seminars will be organised during the semester which will bring together students and supervisors in both streams to discuss common problems which have arisen in carrying out their projects.
