Objectives Focusing students' activities and attention on their own (and the course leader's) research interests, details of a range of regional issues are explored and systems of inquiry are analysed. The academic literature from the rich lode of material in the Monash library is the prime source of information and inspiration. The subject enables students to advance their own research skills and develop their understanding of Southeast Asia.

Synopsis This subject concentrates on the scholarly literature pertaining to Southeast Asia, especially that literature with a bearing on geographical concerns. With the advice of the lecturer, students will choose their own program of reading which will allow them either to focus their attention on particular issues or topics or to broaden and upgrade their experience with the region according to their particular background and needs. In weekly sessions students will review and discuss their reading and report on reference materials used in the library.

Assessment Written (9000 words): 85%
