Objectives On completion of this subject students should understand the operation of and the relationship between international regimes and the regional legal framework for trade and investment activities. After an examination of the national legal systems of selected East Asian nations, student should be able to identify and analyse theoretical and practical legal issues in a regional trade and investment context

Synopsis This subject examines the regional trade and investment regimes affecting businesses operating in the Asian region. Both international and regional trade conventions are explored. The business and investment laws of selected Asian nations are also examined. Topics covered include national development planning; the political context of international trade and investment; import/export regulation; foreign investment regimes and dispute resolution.

Assessment One research paper (5000-6000 words): 50%
* One three-hour exam: 50%
* All students are also required to present a 10-minute class-paper on a relevant topic of interest.
