Objectives Students enrolled in this subject can expect to acquire some knowledge of specific techniques employed in social research; consider ways in which theoretical concerns and debates inform social research and shape the presentation of findings; learn about a range of ethical issues pertaining to the practice of social research; develop a sense of critical reason that will enable them to write syntactically appropriate, logically structured, independent essays on topics chosen or provided for assessment.
Synopsis The subject aims to prepare students for research work and alert them to the ethical issues in human subject research. It will allow students to see how research is done and enable them to judge the value of specific research projects.
