Objectives On successful completion of this unit students should possess considerable practical understanding and critical control over of photography; be able to explore further the camera-based approaches associated with `constructed' photography, including medium format cameras, tungsten and electronic studio lighting, photographic image-producing materials, design and art-directed approaches, staged/fabricated studio tableaux and constructions, and application of digital imaging; possess sound understanding of photography as a visual language through producing photographic works suitable for folio presentation and developing ideas and imagery relating to projects in other studio areas; be capable of electing to undertake further units in photomedia with a view towards either specialisation or application of the media within other studio disciplines.

Synopsis This subject builds on the skills and knowledge acquired in PHO1101 and PHO1102 and extends the opportunity to produce and apply photographic imagery while continuing to develop confidence and skills from previous units. Using `constructed' photography approaches, interested students develop advanced skills and understanding of the medium and in the creation and application of photographic images. Students again explore specific interests and may choose to develop a self-initiated thematic project and/or develop ideas and imagery relating to projects undertaken in other studio areas.
