Interior architecture studio 5

* Prerequisites: IAR2104 and DIS2302

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to an understanding of contemporary discourse in design, with particular reference to interior, environmental and architectural design and the fundamental human needs that they meet; have the capability to develop a personal aesthetic, cultural and social position relative to it; combine this understanding and capability with the professional practice of interior architecture projects to achieve a high degree of resolution of all project factors; communicate the project with high quality presentations and specifications; self manage the scheduling of project work; understand and be capable of resolving simple planning and building code requirements.

Synopsis Projects are multi faceted and primarily set in commercial contexts. Building code and other statutory requirements are discussed and basic resolution of these issues are a part of the project requirements. Students undertake studies of the contemporary discourse in interior, environmental and architectural design and related social theory. Students articulate and test their individual design philosophies in studio discussion.

Assessment Design projects: 80%
* Written and oral presentations: 10%
* Paper on contemporary discourse in interior architecture: 10%
