Minor ceramics 3

O Rye

6 points
* 5 studio hours per week
* First and second semester
* Gippsland
* Prerequisites: GVA2322

Objectives By the completion of this subject students are expected to have developed an ability to manipulate ceramic media to their expressive ends, albeit in a narrow range of application; an understanding of the distinctive possibilities of the medium; and some knowledge of the work of contemporary ceramic practitioners.

Synopsis Students are encouraged to build a strong ideas-base in their journals, and produce results of quality from competence with clay and fire. Yet the clay and fire aspect is still fairly narrow, and some areas of ceramics may be inappropriate. Usually, earthenware and low-fire work will be most appropriate. Ideas must be supported by skill development.

Assessment Studio participation: 20%
* Set projects: 20%
* Final show of work: 60%
