Objectives By the completion of this subject students are expected to have demonstrated that they are able to make analytical associations on a conceptual and technical level between their own work and the work of other artists who have worked within a similar tradition, and that this can be articulated; that further investigation has taken place regarding the themes and subject matter to be pursued within their image-making; that the technical and conceptual relationship between painting and drawing has been developed.

Synopsis A set project is designed to develop a critical awareness of the themes and subject matter which students explore in their own work with regard to similar traditions within art history. Consequently students will begin to develop independent research methods and goals and achieve a continuity in the themes they pursue. Students will be expected to produce at least five finished paintings, as well as related studies, a finished drawing folio, and written documentation of the technical and conceptual concerns of the work produced, as well as the historical research undertaken, in the form of a journal.
