Objectives On successful completion of the subject students will understand the dependence of art on emotional communication; the importance of perception in understanding art; the value of symbolism in artistic communication.
Synopsis The nature of emotional expression in art will be discussed with reference to the role played by the artist, the work and the viewer. How the communication of emotion is dependent on the interaction of these will be considered as well as how the experience of emotion is essential to a full appreciation of any work. Suggestions as to how this is best achieved will be made as well as processes by which the cultural barriers to enabling this can be overcome.
