Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have a sound technical ability in weaving skills; be developing their own personal aesthetic within the medium; be increasing their proficiency in a broad range of fine art techniques including drawing, collage and other media appropriate to tapestry preparation; have the ability to critically evaluate their work in the context of contemporary art practice and theory; have a conceptual and theoretical grounding that allows intelligent critique and discussion about issues central to tapestry and fine art practice generally; demonstrate safe workshop practices.
Synopsis In this second-year subject, students develop a project of individual research into the practical, technical and conceptual issues which surround tapestry production. Students initiate their own projects in consultation with the lecturer. Group and individual tutorials are designed to support students in their exploration and to provide useful feedback and advice. Additionally, slide talks, visiting artists, gallery and museum visits supplement and support studio investigations.
