Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have a working knowledge of mould making, lost wax casting and patination processes; understand the basic formal language and aesthetic issues of three-dimensional sculpture making; have a growing awareness of contemporary issues and historical tradition of lost wax casting; have a creative and practical approach to set projects; demonstrate safe workshop practice.

Synopsis The studio practice will involve projects dealing with creating cast metal sculpture with an emphasis on experimentation. Formal and informal seminars will be conducted to discuss contemporary attitudes and historical traditions of metal casting. Students will be instructed in and required to implement safe studio practice.

Assessment By folio consisting of journals and successful resolution of completed projects: 100%
