Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have a working knowledge of mould-making; be proficient in using a range of equipment and materials including the hand and machine tools used to work clay, wood, plaster and metals; demonstrate an inquiring and open attitude to problem-solving and resolution of set projects; have an ability to mesh subject matter with a suitable mode of its representation; have the means to extend the range of visual source material relevant to their work; understanding how figurative practice may be related to various critical, conceptual and theoretical issues in contemporary art; understand and practice health and safety procedures in the studio.

Synopsis Having achieved basic technical proficiency, the studio practice continues to introduce set projects but a greater emphasis is placed on encouraging individual direction and development. Students are encouraged to develop confidence in discussing their concepts and work. Advanced technical skills are developed through set projects. Students are instructed in and required to implement safe studio/workshop practices.

Assessment By folio. Initial project or work-in-progress is assessed in the first part of the semester and contributes a weighting of no less than 20% to the final assessment.
