Drawing (distortion, design and decoration)

Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have the ability to use line and scale as major descriptive and expressive tools in drawing; possess some working knowledge of the use of pattern and repetition in drawing; have the ability to simplify, distort and flatten images and motifs; have some understanding of non-Western and/or pre-Renaissance methods of spatial organisation; have a good knowledge of a wide range of drawing materials and processes.

Synopsis This elective will offer students in art and design the opportunity to explore drawing on a flat plane using non-traditional techniques and methods. Through a range of set projects and class discussion and slide talks students will work towards the development of personal expression and aesthetic development. This drawing elective will support investigations being carried out in the major study.

* Full participation in studio sessions is essential.
