Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should be able, through drawing, to successfully select and meaningfully arrange, and relate, a variety of graphic elements for the purposes of aesthetic, conceptual and expressive exploration; employ a variety of space-making strategies and projection systems; demonstrate a practical and flexible use of a variety of drawing techniques and notations to develop concepts from given material or motifs; have a deeper understanding of the theoretical, aesthetic, philosophical and historical contexts of the role of composition and design in drawing practice.
Synopsis This subject extends practical and intellectual skills in drawing from concept or perception (using manufactured and natural forms, including the life model, landscape and other environments), and relating these skills in a practical way towards issues of design, composition, aesthetics and viewer involvement. Resourcefulness invention and use of a variety of notational methods will be encouraged. The subject is designed to encourage a strong relationship between drawing and major study activities.
