Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate advanced levels of knowledge and skill with respect to product development, evaluation and refinement relative to a commercial context; coordinate inputs from various disciplines within the product development process; and produce commercially detailed products of high quality.

Synopsis This subject stimulates product development capabilities, allowing design concepts to be realised commercially through coordinated inputs from the business and technology subjects in the course. Topics include scheduling the product development plan, including market research and product viability; sourcing necessary inputs from related supporting disciplines; developing suitable evaluation procedures and refinement techniques; appropriate off-tool simulation of products for final evaluation/presentation to management; and methods of protecting intellectual property.

Assessment Final examination, to an expert panel, of detailed design portfolio and specifications including prototype product: 100%
