DES3103

Technology 6

8 points
* 4 studio hours and 2 lecture hours per week
* First and second semester
* Caulfield
* Prerequisites: DES3003

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should be able to understand and demonstrate the application of manufacturing technology data, technical design principles (electronics and applied mechanics) and advanced computer graphics techniques especially in support of the design project tasks required in the subject DES3102 (Product design 6).

Synopsis The subject includes study of typical electronic circuits and components used in product design, including electric motors; applied mechanics theory and practice in relation to detailed design problems; advanced materials and manufacturing technology and current trends in quality management including ISO quality systems requirements. Students will also use advanced CAD/CAM packages, including Silicon Graphics/Alias systems, to generate solid models and renderings of design solutions as well as preparing parametric engineering drawings and related manufacturing information.

Assessment Examinations and assignments in each of the following topics: Computer graphics: 40%
* Applied electronics: 20%
* Applied mechanics: 20%
* Materials and manufacturing technology: 20%
