Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have acquired technical competence and theoretical awareness in the manipulation of materials, especially those belonging to the medium of their choice; skills in seeking and finding useful information of an advanced kind which the practitioner cannot be expected to remember; familiarity with the stages of applying such knowledge, from the experimental to the stages of refinement.

Synopsis Students are directed to the relevant literature in tailored to the likely uses of the materials which students use. Students are expected to develop a resource folio of materials and technology relevant to their particular media.
