Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should appreciate the history of glass painting and its cultural, religious and architectural significance; be able to perceive and analyse the differences in concept, style and technique between glass painting examples; understand the limitations and opportunities for traditional glass painting in a contemporary context; be able to confidently reproduce glass painting using traditional techniques and forms from original designs.

Synopsis This subject provides a fundamental knowledge of glass painting for architectural glass, embracing traditional techniques within an historical and contemporary framework. Formal studio sessions and demonstrations introduce students to materials, equipment, methods of application and technical procedures associated with studio projects. Technical, aesthetic and cultural issues are discussed in fortnightly seminars.
