Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have basic skills in the manipulation of glass for the purpose of shaping two and three dimensional forms; begin to appreciate the relationship of design to the finished glass object; have been introduced to some of the critical, conceptual and theoretical issues of contemporary glass practice; begin to have a historical overview of studio glass; recognise the creative links between studio glass and their major study; be aware of, and practice, health and safety procedures in the glass studio.
Synopsis This subject is concerned with the acquisition of fundamental skills in glass for students majoring in another area. Studio sessions and tutor demonstrations will introduce students to a range of processes, technologies and conceptual concerns common to glass practice. Students will be encouraged to analyse and discuss these issues in fortnightly seminars.
