There is a creche with thirty places at the Casey Institute of TAFE (opposite the campus) which will accept children of university staff and students. This creche is, however, heavily booked. Students will be provided with listings of the care centres and school holiday programs in the area.

Capacity The creche caters for a maximum of sixty children of students, staff and the wider community, from ten weeks to five years of age.
Bookings Casual bookings are available with a minimum of half a day care per session. Permanent bookings, available on a sessional, daily or full-time basis, may be made on payment of a small membership fee. Bookings may be made during forty-nine weeks of the year. The creche is closed for three weeks over Christmas.
Cost The cost is calculated according to a sliding scale determined by total family income and assessed by the Department of Social Security.

Capacity The co-op caters for a maximum of fifty children and provides a kindergarten program on five days a week. Children are taken from six weeks to five years.
Bookings Care is provided full-time or on a daily basis. No sessional care is offered. Casual vacancies are available during the long vacation.
Cost The cost is calculated according to a sliding scale determined by total family income. The creche works on a cooperative basis, with a $100 share purchase, refundable when the child leaves.
Enrolment Enrolments are taken throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to place their names on waiting lists immediately.
The Elwyn Morey Centre provides early intervention services to the community, and teaching and research resources to Monash University. In 1997 the centre will offer a range of programs for children and families:

Hours Care is provided for children of students, staff and community users Monday to Thursday between 8.45 am and 6.30 pm, and on Friday from 8.45 am to 1 pm. The flat is also open during the enrolment and re-enrolment periods, orientation and examination periods. During semester breaks, the service will function according to demand.
Capacity The centre caters for children aged from 0 to 12 years.

Capacity The programs cater for the equivalent of ninety full-time places for children aged from 5 to 12 years. The programs provide a range of educational and entertaining activities.

Cost The cost is calculated according to a sliding scale determined by total family income for those qualified for assistance: the 1996 fee was $13 for a full day, less assistance.

The Child and Family Service at Peninsula plays a major role in assisting students and staff in their transition back to study or work. Counselling on parental issues, family problems and problem child behaviour is available. Child care advice, child placement in child care centres on campus and in the local community, occasional child care services, family day care and out-of-school-hours services are arranged. Up to four children can be cared for by experienced child care staff during the day or evening. Costs to student parents are subsidised by MUSU.

Students may also be eligible for child-care subsidy on Union nights or when they are attending Union activities, clubs and societies events such as film nights, meetings and so on.
