The development of a bookshop is currently under consideration, and some part-time arrangement will be made for 1997.
CITSU Bookshop Pty Ltd is a Monash Student Union Inc. enterprise established at the Caulfield campus in 1978. Now at Caulfield and Peninsula campuses, CITSU Bookshop operates to provide students and staff with textbooks, reference books and general reading, secondhand texts, stationery, art supplies, cards, gifts, Monash clothing and insignia products.
A 10 per cent discount is given on most new books for cash sales, and a 7 per cent discount for credit card and cheque sales. Both shops are open throughout the year, with extended trading hours for semester beginnings. The Caulfield bookshop is open until 7.30 pm Monday to Thursday nights during teaching weeks.

The Monash University Bookshop at Clayton is owned by the university and controlled by a board which is composed mainly of Council, professorial and student appointees. It is expected to be self-supporting while providing a service appropriate for a university at a minimum cost to its customers. Books are marked with their recommended retail prices, but a 10 per cent discount is deducted at the cash register from the price of most books. Stationery prices are low. The bookshop is situated at the eastern end of the Union building on the ground floor. It is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5.30 pm (from 8.30 am during the first week of each semester). The Monash Cooperative Bookshop Limited at Clayton is a student enterprise established in 1976 to ensure that books and stationery are available to students at the best possible price. The co-op is situated at the western end of the Union building. It deals in secondhand text and general books, stationery, magazines, art supplies and calculators, and technical equipment for engineering students. Life membership costs $10 plus a joining fee of $3. The membership fee is refundable at any time and is payable only once. The co-op is open to all students, staff and the public, but members receive a 15 per cent discount on all their stationery purchases (including calculators), and a preferential discount on the sale of used books. The bookshop at the Gippsland campus is a branch of the Monash University Bookshop at Clayton. Distance education students are offered the facility of a mail order service, the arrangements for which should be made in advance. In addition to providing for students' course requirements, the bookshop also offers a wide range of general books, ranging from light reading to academically oriented titles.
