Applied statistics
4 points * Second semester * Clayton * Prerequisites: MAT2061 * Prohibitions: GAS3631
Objectives On the completion of this subject students will be able to use descriptive techniques to summarise data sets; use simulation to study the behaviour of random phenomena; construct control charts and apply other techniques of statistical quality control; use graphical techniques and goodness-of-fit tests to check the suitability of a particular distribution for a given data set; analyse data in contingency tables using chi-squared tests and other techniques; perform various tests for comparing several populations; perform various techniques of exploratory data analysis; use MINITAB to perform the above analyses; interpret the results obtained from MINITAB.
Synopsis Introduction to MINITAB. Descriptive statistics. Simulation. Statistical quality control. Goodness-of-fit tests. Analysis of contingency tables. Tests for comparing several populations. Exploratory data analysis.
Assessment Examinations (1.5 hours): 80% * Assignments: 20%
