Experimental psychology: techniques and applications

6 points* First semester * 2 hours lectures and a 3-hour laboratory per week * Gippsland/Distance * Prerequisites: GAS2504 plus two of GAS2501, GAS2502, GAS2503 or GAS2505

Objectives On completion of this subject students will be able to understand current theory and research in learning, perception and motor performance; utilise modern research techniques used in these areas; describe important applications of basic research in experimental psychology.

Synopsis This subject will review current research on basic psychological processes in learning, perception, attention and motor performance. Modern research paradigms and techniques will be emphasised, such as neural networks, kinematics, virtual reality and bioimaging. Applications in areas such as sports psychology, clinical psychology and human factors psychology will be discussed. Distance education students are required to attend a two-day weekend or residential school program.

Assessment Laboratory reports: 40% * Examination: 60% * A pass on the examination is a requirement for successful completion of this subject
