Objectives On the completion of this subject students will have acquired an understanding of basic cognitive processes; will have achieved an appreciation of the social basis of behaviour, and selected aspects of personality and abnormal psychology; will have further developed their understanding of research methodology and statistical analysis; and will have further developed their skills in report writing.
Synopsis This subject continues the general introduction to the discipline of psychology. The topics covered include descriptive statistics and an introduction to inferential statistics, basic processes and principles of cognition, and an introduction to personality, abnormal and social psychology. Laboratory classes are designed to enhance students' understanding of the lecture material, while providing further training in research techniques.
Assessment Two laboratory reports (1500 words each): 30% * Laboratory book (1500 words): 10% * Two statistics assignments (500 words): 10% * Examination (3 hours, multiple-choice): 50%
