Management of client health/illness states

Objectives On completion of the subject the students are expected to demonstrate advanced health assessment skills; demonstrate a broad knowledge of clinical pathology and laboratory diagnostics; demonstrate competence in interpretation of clinical data; apply health assessment skills to facilitate differential nursing diagnosis; demonstrate a high level of knowledge in regard to selected therapeutic options; develop case management plans; meet the health education needs of clients; develop advanced clinical skills in a specialist area of their choosing.
Synopsis The overall aim is to prepare the specialist nurse for an expanded role in the management of client health/illness states. The subject encompasses advanced nursing assessment skills, history taking and physical examination, interpretation of a variety of clinical data, health education, differential diagnosis and nursing management for selected client illness states to achieve quality health outcomes.
