Objectives On completion of this subject students are expect to apply theories of leadership, management and decision making to changing, shaping managing in organisations or community contexts; demonstrate an understanding of organisational, clinical and consumer responses to the implementation of contemporary Australian health care policies; analyse the implications for management of the standards for nursing homes and other health care facilities; examine case management methods and the implications for the management of nursing care; demonstrate a knowledge of case-mix method of funding Australian health care organisations; critically analyse the documentation requirements related to funding methods within extended care settings; implement management processes which support team work within the organisation; demonstrate communication skills which promote a positive working and living environment within the organisation or work setting; review contemporary models of quality management for the improvement of care.
Synopsis Issues in the management of nursing services will be explored. The implications of health care policy for nursing care will be examined within the context of quality health care values and outcomes. The achievement of standards for health care facilities will be addressed in relation to the economic and administrative constraints of case-mix funding. The concept of client-focused care will be explored in the context of organisational structures and environments for care. The subject also examines the professional and social aspects of interdisciplinary health care team functioning with the concomitant aim to develop the relevant communication and interpersonal skills
Assessment Written assignment: 50% * Presentation: 20% * Fieldwork: 30%
