Objectives It is intended that completion of this subject will enable the student to understand the implications of contemporary views of health for all policy as a response to global health; discuss models of health, health behaviour and explore a personal concept of their health from socio-environmental perspective; discuss selected lifestyle factors, their influence on health and health promotion across the lifespan; apply teaching and learning principles to health education and motivational theories to enable behaviour change; develop skills for assessment of individuals and population groups in relation to promotion of health; discuss strategies for encouraging behaviour change, self-empowerment, collective action skills and promoting healthy public policies; develop an understanding of the nursing role in health education and promotion.
Synopsis Health is perceived as a positive attribute and resource for everyday living. Health development strategies to promote optimum health for individuals, families and communities are examined and advocated to achieve the aim of health for all by the year 2000 and beyond.
Assessment Two assignments: 40% each * Reflective journal: 20%
