Clinical pharmacology for nurses I

Objectives On completion of this subject the student is expected to be able to understand the basic principles of pharmacology - receptors and drug response; routes of drug administration, therapeutic drug monitoring; drug treatment of pain; respiratory disease; cardiovascular disease; hypertension; infection; ocular disease; skin disease; gynaecological and obstetric disorders; and the side effects of drugs.

Synopsis The subject will introduce basic principles of pharmacology, therapeutic drug monitoring, drugs used in anaesthesia, pain relief and rheumatic disorders; treatment of respiratory disease ocular disorders; skin disease; cardiovascular disease and hypertension; anti-microbial therapy, gynaecological and obstetric treatment; wound management. The subject is taught by lectures.

Assessment Assignment: 30% * Examination: 70%
