Objectives On completion of this subject students are expected to demonstrate knowledge of the concepts inherent in epidemiology; discuss the epidemiology of significant health problems; describe the epidemiologic research process and types of epidemiologic studies; explore specific health problems using epidemiologic research methods; utilise a number of frameworks for understanding the determinants of a community's health; evaluate the role of services and other measures in improving the physical and mental wellbeing of a population's health; demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between epidemiology and health planning and discuss ways in which health programs and policy may be influenced.
Synopsis This subject provides the student with a broad knowledge of epidemiologic concepts as applied to the study of population health. During the course students will be introduced to principles of epidemiologic research methods.
