Objectives The student is expected to acquire a basic understanding of engineering drawing techniques and standards. Students are also expected to become familiar with the procedures required to solve a simple design problem. Through this subject, students will gain confidence in the practice of engineering particularly in the design environment, where graphical communication is required.

Synopsis This subject is divided into two sections and aims at providing a basic training in engineering drawing and introducing the area of engineering design. (1) Engineering drawing. This section covers the fundamentals of engineering drawing and includes basic drawing skills, drawing media lines, lettering, numerals and symbols, sketching, projectioning, sectioning, scales, representation of common engineering features such as fasteners, springs, etc., dimensioning and basic tolerancing. (2) Engineering design. Introduction to engineering design. Design exercises involving the preparation of design reports including sketches, design calculations and drawings.
