Objectives The student is expected to acquire a basic knowledge and understanding of the methods and processes of field measurement, computations and setting out in engineering surveying.

Synopsis Theories of measurement; errors and their adjustment; plane surveying; measurement of distance; measurement of angles; the theodolite, instrumental errors and adjustment; traversing; levelling; calculation of areas and volumes; topographic surveying tacheometry; design and setting out of circular, transition and vertical curves; survey drafting; electronic distance measurement and global positioning systems (GPS).

Assessment Examinations (3 hours):60% * Practical work: 40%
