Objectives The student is expected to develop competence and confidence in the use of written, oral and graphical communication skills in a civil engineering context.
Synopsis The civil engineering profession and practice. The systems approach to civil engineering problem solving. Effective oral and written communication: brief written communications, job applications (written applications and interviews) and technical reports. Use of information and library services for investigation/research. Meeting organisation, group dynamics. Drawing: portrayal of objects using sectional views, sketching, projections, interpretation of drawings, drawing standards. Introduction to computer-aided drafting.
Assessment Examination: 25% * Practical work, assignments, reports and oral presentations: 75%
