Objectives To acquire the skills and understanding, appropriate for engineering applications, in the areas of linear algebra, vector calculus and numerical methods.

Synopsis Matrices: eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalisation and application to engineering problems. Vector calculus: gradient, divergence, curl and integral theorems. Computational mathematics: errors, zeros of non-linear functions, simultaneous equations, polynomial approximations, numerical integration, differential equations.

Assessment Examination (2 x 2 hours): 72% * Tests: 20% * Tutorials: 8%
