Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to explain basic principles and practices associated with effective primary science teaching and learning; explore, plan lessons and implement selected concepts of primary science curriculum; acquire a basic understanding of selected concepts and skills in science appropriate to primary teaching; observe and assess children's learning behaviour with reference to one's teaching strategies and assess one's teaching effectiveness; use resources appropriate to planning and teaching primary science lessons within the Curriculum and Standards Framework series.
Synopsis This subject aims to explore and expand on student's own understanding of science, science teaching and young children's thinking and learning of science; develop and increase confidence and enthusiasm in the learning and teaching of primary science; stimulate ideas and skills in the planning, implementation and evaluation activities for primary science; familiarise students with science curriculum and safe teaching practices; and familiarise students with issues of gender inclusiveness and issues concerning a pluralist society relevant to primary science teaching.
Assessment Examination: 70%
* Assignment: 30%
