Studio arts - printmaking/textiles (Education)

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed elementary skills in, and an understanding of, printmaking and textiles along with practical extensions in the computer graphic, drawing and design areas; have investigated elementary fabric printing and dyeing processes, the properties of fibre and its construction and decoration; have developed skills in various printmaking processes and surface decorations, experimented with 2-D computer graphic programs; have the ability to carry out independent research on relevant artists and techniques and have developed a knowledge of relevant terminology.

Synopsis This subject aims to explore contemporary approaches to art practice and to develop and increase confidence in various media through the introduction of technical and design processes. Emphasis will be placed on experimentation and concept development. The subject will examine art practice and theory through lectures and seminars, excursions to galleries and studios, leading to the development of strategies and activities for classroom application.

Assessment Practical folio and resource folder: 60%
* Drawing folio (6 pieces): 30%
* Class paper (1000 words): 10%
