In each year of the course, practice teaching is undertaken in schools located close to a student's place of residence. Practice teaching is an integral part of GEC5501 (Teaching and curriculum studies I) and GEC5502 (Teaching and curriculum studies II). Students are required to complete twenty days of practice teaching in the first year of the course and twenty-five days in the second year. Practice teaching is usually undertaken during May, July and August in each year.

There may also be a small number of places available for full-time study through distance education. Students undertaking the course full-time complete the required forty-five (45) days of practice teaching in two blocks of time in school during May and again in July and August.

Practice teaching must be undertaken in Australia so as to provide for appropriate supervision during the teaching rounds.
