General

This distinctive specialised course has been especially designed to provide business personnel with an in-depth understanding of current practices and future developments in international business. The Graduate Diploma in International Business is offered in an international finance strand, in an international marketing strand, in an Asian business strand and in an international management strand. The course aims to provide a graduate level of study for candidates seeking to deepen their level of knowledge and to enhance their practical skills in the international business arena from the perspective of either the finance function or the marketing function.

Course objectives

The course objectives are to provide a graduate level of study for students seeking to deepen their level of knowledge and to utilise their practical skills in the international business arena from the perspective of either the Asian business function, the finance function, the marketing function or the management function. In pursuing this aim, the course has both common and stranded educational objectives. Common education objectives of the course are to provide all students with:

Entrance requirements

Applicants require a pass degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution or an executive certificate from this faculty with an average grade of credit or above.

Fees

This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Syme Department of Banking and Finance as to the 1997 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Duration

The Graduate Diploma in International Business is normally completed in four semesters of part-time study. The Asian business, international finance and international management strands may also be completed in two semesters of full-time study.

Mode of offering

Evening classes are offered on-campus at the Caulfield campus.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of four credit exemptions for subjects considered to be the equivalent of particular subjects in the course of study. Please refer to the relevant course director for further details.

Asian business part-time

Students may enter the Asian business strand in either semester and may take the course on either a full-time (four subjects per semester) or part-time (two subjects per semester) basis. Students are advised to enquire about the course structure for the second-semester intake.

Progression to further studies

Students with a specialisation in Asian business may apply for entry to the Master of Arts in Asian Studies offered by the Faculty of Arts.

Those with a specialisation in international finance may consider the Master of Business (Banking and Finance). This coursework/minor thesis masters is offered by the Syme Department of Banking and Finance. Graduate holders require a credit average or above to gain entry.

Those with a specialisation in international management may apply for entry into the Master of Business Administration offered by the Monash Mt Eliza Business School, Caulfield.
