The Graduate Certificate in Retail Business is designed to cater for experienced retail managers, without a first degree, who wish to undertake study in retail business subjects at the graduate level. The aim of the course is to provide challenging, relevant study in retail business subjects leading to the Graduate Diploma in Retail and Wholesale Management.
The objectives of the course focus on four key areas of study through which the students will be able to:
Applicants require a pass degree in a discipline other than marketing/retail or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution and at least three years middle to senior level retail management experience. The course is offered by distance education and will therefore be available to retail managers based in retail or related service organisations anywhere in Australia or abroad. Applicants from abroad will need to meet the university's requirements regarding proficiency in English. Applicants without a first degree who have at least six years appropriate employment experience should refer to the section on executive certificates.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates are referred to the Syme Department of Marketing at to the 1997 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
The Graduate Certificate in Retail Business is normally completed in two semesters of part-time study.
The course is offered by distance education from the Syme Department of Marketing.
Exemptions do not apply. Where equivalent subjects have been completed elsewhere the course director may approve a replacement subject.
The course is recognised by the Retailers' Council of Australia. Course graduates employed in the retail industry are eligible to apply for graduate membership.
First semester
Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate in Retail Business may apply for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Retail and Wholesale Management.
