General

The aim of the Graduate Certificate in Marketing is to provide candidates with an undergraduate degree in an area other than marketing, but with significant experience from a range of business and non-business backgrounds, an avenue to obtain or upgrade marketing knowledge and skills at the graduate level. The course involves a detailed introduction to the marketing function and the opportunity for candidates to select subjects of particular interest to their own specific needs. This course may be used to provide graduate study in marketing or to articulate into the Graduate Diploma in Marketing and other graduate business courses.

Course objectives

The objectives of the program are to provide an integrated, graduate level introductory course in marketing for graduates in disciplines other than marketing who have appropriate business experience and responsibility. On completion, successful candidates should:

Entrance requirements

Applicants require a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution plus a minimum of three years relevant employment experience. Applicants without a first degree who have a minimum of six years appropriate employment experience should refer to the section on executive certificates.

Fees

This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of Management as to the 1997 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.

Duration

The Graduate Certificate in Marketing is normally completed in one semester of full-time study or two semesters of part-time study.

Mode of offering

Classes are offered on-campus at the Caulfield campus.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of two credit exemptions for subjects considered to be the equivalent of particular requirements in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.

First semester

Core subjects (6 credit points each):

Plus 2 subjects from (6 credit points each)*:

or one (1) subject from the above list and one (1) from the elective list below*: or another subject from any of Monash University's graduate courses (assuming the student has the appropriate prerequisites and the permission of the course director).

* Students must have the appropriate prerequisites.

Progression to further studies

Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate in Marketing may apply for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Marketing.
